Raccoon Blamed For Iberia, St. Martin Power Outage
The good news is didn't happen during the heat of the day when the heat index was above 105 degrees. The better news is officials with CLECO have the problem solved. The issue was the power going out for several hundred customers in Iberia and St. Martin parishes last night and this morning.
That message on the Loreauville Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page chronicled the issue Sunday evening (July 15).
Officials with CLECO said their repair crews believe the problem started with an unwanted guest at a substation. That guest, a raccoon, obviously touched something that should not have been touched.
The power was restored to the affected homeowners and communities shortly before 3 AM.
