UPDATE: Hernandez has just been charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd.

ESPN is reporting that New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested at his home this morning, taken away by police in handcuffs. Hernandez has been part of the investigation in the death of an acquaintance that lived near his residency.

Hernandez was escorted out of his house this morning, in handcuffs, by state police. Hernandez remains at the center of an investigation involving the shooting death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.

The home belonging to the NFL star was searched by police and dogs for over 3-hours Saturday and apparently after the search, the arrest warrant was issued. According to ABC News, police discovered that the security system at Hernandez's home, along with his cellphone, were destroyed, after Lloyd was found murdered execution style.

Surveillance video shows Hernandez and two other people with Lloyd just hours before he was murdered.

UPDATE: The New England Patriots have posted a statement via their official website announcing the release of tight end Aaron Hernandez.

The New England Patriots issued the following statement: “A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”
